Tufts Hillel’s English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) program, part of the Hillel/McGlynn/Medford Cultural Partnership (HMMCP), connects Tufts students with parents at the McGlynn Middle School and other Medford community members who are English language learners. The program strengthens relationships between Tufts and the local community while providing an important service for families in Greater Boston.

The ESOL program is a year-long commitment. In the fall semester, Tufts volunteers complete an online course to earn an ESL teaching certification and meet with professionals working in the field. In the spring, volunteers work directly with adult learners through weekly classes held at Tufts Hillel.

No prior teaching experience is needed. Training and support are provided to help volunteers grow into the role. Students gain practical skills in teaching and communication while building meaningful relationships across cultures.
