Shabbat at Tufts Hillel

We’re so happy you’re spending Shabbat with us. Shabbat is an opportunity to unplug from the week and plug into rest of all kinds. On Shabbat, we invite you to step away from school, technology, and other stressors of the week, and step into holy rest and celebration!

Every Friday, join us in the Hillel lobby as we transition into Shabbat with candle lighting and intention-setting. Candles will be available all evening for you to light on your own time. And in the winter, feel free to come by earlier to light candles as the sun sets.

After candle lighting, welcome Shabbat with prayer in either our Reform or Conservative services, which last around 45 minutes. We do our best to be accessible and uplifting for the whole community and we thrive on your feedback! Interested in leading a part of the service? Want to bring a melody you love? A poem you want to share? Some words of Torah to teach? Get in touch with our staff or any of the minyan chairs if you want to be involved or learn how to do so! Also, if you are interested in starting (or re-starting!) a new minyan/service during Shabbat, please also reach out to to discuss.

There is always a place for you around our Shabbat table! Bring your friends (all students are welcome!) or make new ones at Hillel every week for a delicious kosher Shabbat dinner. Registration is required for Shabbat dinner the Wednesday before, so make sure to follow us on social media and sign up for our email newsletter to receive registration links. We always wrap up Friday nights with dessert, board games, and restful Shabbat vibes at 8. We would love to see you for every and any part of Friday night you can make it for!
